Steels produced with this technics primarily used in surface drilling applications where air is the primary flushing medium. Phosphorising is to improve anti-erosion capability of the entire external rod surface area.

Drilling extension rods are one of the most important spare parts in terms of drilling application area. There are two shapes of extension rods: one is round type and the other is hexagonal type.
All extension rods are threaded and made of hollow drilling steels, which means that extension rods are usually hollow. This hollow hole is usually called discharge hole and is used to transmit water or air during drilling. Two-end threads can be used to connect couplings, stems, couplings or drill bits. Usually the two ends of extension rods are male, while sometimes, one end is male and another is female, in that case, we call it M/F rod.
